As an educator I understand what families are going through in my neighborhood. I have been able to see Seattle change as I have lived in many of the different neighborhoods. The most impressive revitalization has happen in my own Latino neighborhood, where at one point a bridge was undergoing restoration and so was the neighborhood. The people filled vacant places with art until the businesses could come back. The local Patrias Parades brought people back and the community is now growing into every space and mural. The new community I am in is also having a resurgence but this one is for our young trans and LGBTQ+ community. My church, my school and my community and my family is ready to take on this challenge with love and compassion for all. I value all that I have learned working and living the open and affirming life.
