Sabrina Otness - 122

My name is Sabrina Otness and I am seeking your vote to represent Washington State at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in support of President Joe Biden! I am someone who cares about people, policy, impact, and making things better wherever we can by leading with curiosity and empathy. 2024 is a critical year and I look forward to continue supporting and upholding our democracy.

Education & Policy Research: I graduated from Columbia University in 2022 with a Master of Public Administration in International Security Policy. Much of my research focused on the long term impacts violence and disparities in our communities have on people’s health and freedoms. Before Roe v. Wade was overturned, I researched the cascading impacts a Supreme Court overruling would have on the patients’ access to abortion care and what it would mean for the social justice movement. I also studied cyber policy and the negative impacts unregulated and accelerated artificial intelligence (AI) implementation can have on us here at home in Washington and across the globe in all sectors. I believe safeguarding our fundamental rights to privacy and freedom from discrimination must be given the highest priority when implementing policy. We must put people first!

Applying my education to WA, my home state: After graduating, I moved back home from NYC to Washington State to begin my footing in the local government and nonprofit space. While working remotely as a project analyst at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, I also volunteer with various organizations on matters I care deeply about like child safety against gun violence in schools, suicide prevention, upholding free and fair local elections, and supporting the local democratic party.

Closing, looking ahead: In closing, I am seeking your vote to represent our state and will bring informed policy research, understanding, and experience as a national delegate. There’s still so much work to be done in rebuilding trust on the global stage with our allies AND within our communities at home following a destructive and divisive Trump Administration. In reality, mis/disinformation and distrust in our democracy will continue to be challenging to overcome well after another Biden win.  I believe our party must not give up and continue to fight for our communities’ well being with data-driven, equitable solutions.
